Tariq Rehman gave a big blow to Yunus, these cases registered in Bangladesh will be investigated again

After becoming the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tariq Rahman has made changes in many decisions taken during the interim government of Mohammad Yunus. Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday (23 February 2026) ordered a review of cases after 5 August 2024 to stop harassment. He directed the police to re-investigate the cases registered after the fall of the Awami League government through the student rebellion and ensure that innocent persons are not made victims of harassment.

According to the Dhaka Tribune report, Salahuddin Ahmed held a three-hour meeting with the heads of directorates and law enforcement agencies. He said, ‘After August 5, 2024, some people targeted people associated with various professions, including businessmen and journalists, for personal gains. The police have been directed to re-investigate these cases and submit a report to the government to establish the rule of law.

Mob system cannot be tolerated: Salahuddin Ahmed

He made it clear that mob lynching will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Salahuddin Ahmed stressed, ‘The trend of closing NH or getting one’s demands met through violence has now ended. Now complaints should be presented through legal and institutional channels only.

Referring to the tenure of the previous government, Salahuddin Ahmed said that the police force was badly affected by political interference. Emphasizing the central role of law enforcement in maintaining social order, he said that society cannot function effectively without the police. He reiterated the government’s commitment to implement the recommendations of the Police Reforms Commission.

Referring to the police force, the Home Minister said, ‘For many people, ministry means police. Police has to become a friend of the public. The image which was tarnished earlier will have to be improved. We have to create a completely corruption free ministry. There should be accountability and transparency at every level. If any person within the force is found involved in criminal activity, immediate action will be taken after investigation.
