Many people including Congress leader Salman Khurshid, RJD MP Manoj Jha, former Supreme Court judge Madan B Lokur and CPI leader Vrinda Karat were present in the program.
Salman Khurshid discussed many issues
Former Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid spoke on many important issues in the press conference. Later, while talking to ABP News, he said that in the case of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel, human sympathy is seen among the common people. According to him, these people ‘have suffered a lot of hardships unnecessarily.’
Salman Khurshid said that after looking at the recent decisions of the Supreme Court, the question arises that why does it take so long in cases where there does not appear to be a very solid basis. He called it a big question on the system. He said that there is a need to seriously consider the functioning of our legal system.
Mahatma Gandhi always had civilized dialogue: Salman Khurshid
Giving the example of Mahatma Gandhi, he said that Gandhiji always talked about civilized conversation. Today there is a need that the society should have peaceful and logical discussions instead of getting carried away by emotions. He said that it is important to relieve people’s pain and complaints, but it is equally important to bring changes in the system.
Salman Khurshid also said that in many cases, cases are going on against a large number of people. According to him, the basic problem is of the system. Referring to the old riots, he said that there have been many times when the police were accused of being involved in violence, like during the Mumbai and Gujarat riots. In such circumstances, public trust weakens.
There is a difference between democracy and mobocracy: Khurshid
He said that the difference between democracy and mob rule is that in democracy, strength of law and justice is necessary. Speaking on the role of judiciary, he gave the example of America, where judges appointed by Trump also gave decisions against him. He described this as a remarkable example of the independence of the judiciary. On the question of wrong being done on the basis of religion, he said that the real problem is of the system. According to him, many times people forget the difference between right and wrong due to emotions. Other speakers present at the program also emphasized on justice, accountability and protection of constitutional values.
