Delhi Police has arrested National President of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Uday Bhanu Chib. According to sources, this arrest has been made in the ‘shirtless protest’ case that took place during the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam last week. Police detained Uday Bhanu around 4:30 am and now he has been formally arrested and presented in Delhi court.
Police asked for 7 days remand
Delhi Police has presented Uday Bhanu in Delhi court and demanded police custody for 7 days. Police allege that Uday was involved in the entire conspiracy and had provided the logistics. Police said that people from different parts of the country were involved in this case. Have to be taken to many places for investigation, hence custody is required.
Uday Bhanu’s lawyer opposed the demand for police custody. He said that Uday always cooperated in the investigation. Be present for investigation when called. What is the need for arrest? Custody is needed only to recover the T-shirt. This is a ridiculous argument.
Uday was called to the police station for questioning and arrested.
Delhi Police had called Uday Bhanu Chib to Tilak Marg police station for questioning. After a long interrogation, the police arrested Uday. Police say that Uday Bhanu Chib had all the information regarding this protest or the IYC President had an important role in laying the complete outline of this protest. Police said that Uday Bhanu did not cooperate during interrogation. Uday Bhanu either shrugged off most of the questions or tried to mislead them. According to police sources, the police have found enough evidence against Uday Bhanu after which the arrest has been made.
According to sources, Delhi Police asked these questions to Uday Bhanu:
- Did you already know about the demonstration held at AI Summit?
- Was this demonstration planned only on your request?
- Who were involved in the planning of this demonstration?
- From which places were the workers called to participate in this demonstration?
- How was transport provided to the workers to come to Delhi?
- Where and how were the materials for the display collected?
- Where did you get the logistical support?
A total of 8 arrests were made in the shirtless demonstration
This matter came into limelight when IYC workers protested without wearing shirts during the AI Summit. The protesters raised slogans on government policies and issues related to AI and created ruckus at the venue. The police had registered a case under this incident for disturbing public peace and other sections. So far, a total of 8 people have been arrested in this case, including Uday Bhanu Chib. The police interrogated throughout the night and it is alleged that Uday Bhanu did not cooperate fully in the investigation.
How did Congress react to the arrest?
Congress MP Shashikant Senthil said, ‘Despite being affected by issues like youth unemployment and paper leaks, answers were not being received from the government, due to which the demonstration had to be held at the AI Summit. Even when MPs like us raised issues, we did not get any response. The youth felt that there was no hope from the ‘compromise’ PM. This was a very small protest, whereas lakhs of youth are unemployed. Youth Congress workers have come from this background. He showed bravery, that too when he knew what kind of government there was.
Major suspicion of conspiracy in investigation
Delhi Police has not yet issued an official statement, but according to sources, a ‘big conspiracy’ is being suspected in the investigation. Police say that there was an organized plan behind the demonstration and top leaders of Youth Congress were involved in it. Uday Bhanu Chib was kept at Tilak Marg police station, from where he was arrested.
