When it comes to locking the phone, most people use Face ID or fingerprint. While iPhone has the option of Face ID, Android phones depend on fingerprint sensor for security. In such a situation, this question may come in the mind of many people that which is better between fingerprint and Face ID and which method provides more security? Today we have brought the answer to this question.
What is FaceID and how does it work?
As the name suggests, FaceID scans the user’s face to unlock the device. Apple started this with the iPhone X launched in 2017 and this feature is available in every subsequent model. This technology creates a 3D image of the face by using different sensors and light projectors. The company calls it TrueDepth. This technology detects the face by lighting it up with the help of infrared sensor.
How does fingerprint sensor work?
The sensor found on Android devices unlocks the device by identifying the user’s fingerprint. Motorola first started it in 2011 with its Atrix mobile. Later, Apple also used this technology with TouchID option in some of its iPhones. Now mid-range smartphones do 2D scanning using an optical fingerprint sensor, while flagship devices have an ultrasonic scanner, which creates a 3D image of your fingerprint.
Which method is safer among the two?
Both Face ID and fingerprint can protect your smartphone. However, fingerprint is ahead because it is being used in most of the devices and now it is being used in foldable phones also. One disadvantage with FaceID is that it is not completely unique. In case of twins or people who look alike, this technology loses. Apple also believes that FaceID can be a false match in the case of twins, siblings and children under 13 years of age. In such a situation, you can trust fingerprint more than Face ID.
