Action on ruckus in AI Summit, Youth Congress President Udaybhan Chib sent on 4-day police remand after arrest

National President of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Udaybhanu Chib has been arrested by Delhi Police in the shirtless protest case at AI Impact Summit. During his appearance in Patiala House Court, the police demanded 7 days police custody (remand), but the court approved 4 days custody. After this, Congress workers have gathered outside Patiala House High Court. According to sources, the police will now interrogate Udaybhanu thoroughly so that the entire conspiracy and planning of the protest can be found out.

Police will search for the accused in different states

The police produced Udaybhanu in Patiala House Court around 10 am. Police asked for 7 days custody as other accused are in different states (Jammu-Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh) and they need to be confronted. Also, more time is required to investigate a bigger conspiracy. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court approved police remand for 4 days. Udaybhanu’s lawyer opposed the remand and said that his client cooperated in the investigation and was not present at the spot, hence there was no need for arrest.

Police kept 4 other accused on remand for 5 days

A total of 8 people have been arrested in this case so far, which includes Udaybhanu Chib. The first four activists were detained on the day of the incident and were given police custody for 5 days. Congress has termed this arrest as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘dictatorial’. IYC general secretary Shesh Narayan Ojha described it as ‘British-like rule’. The party claims that the workers were expressing their views peacefully, but the government is suppressing the protest.

Punishment given for shirtless protest in Bharat Mandapam

This incident took place during the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam on 20 February 2026, where Youth Congress workers protested without wearing shirts and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The police registered a case under disturbing public peace, criminal conspiracy and other serious sections. Police allege that Udaybhanu was the ‘mastermind’ of this protest and had provided the logistics.
