Tension has increased regarding the firing in America and Cuba. Cuba has said that four people who entered Cuban waters aboard a US-registered speedboat were killed in a shootout with the coast guard. Cuba’s Interior Ministry said the speed boat intruded into their territorial waters on Wednesday (February 25), leading to a confrontation with Cuba’s coast guard.
Six more passengers were injured in the incident that occurred near an island off the northern coast of Cuba. Cuba’s Interior Ministry has posted a statement on social media about this incident. It has been told that a commander of the Cuban Border Guard has also been injured.

He further said that the American flagship boat intruded into Cuban territorial waters and opened fire on security forces. Florida US registered number FL7726SH arrived within one nautical mile of Villa Clara province. When a border patrol unit of the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, consisting of four service members, arrived for identification, the offending speedboat fired on Cuban personnel, wounding the Cuban vessel’s commander. Due to the conflict, 4 foreign attackers were killed and 6 were injured. He also said that the injured have been evacuated and they have been provided medical aid.
What did US Secretary of State Marco Rubio say?
After this incident, there is a possibility of increasing tension between America and Cuba. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that we will conduct an independent investigation into this incident before responding. Rubio said that we will find out what really happened there and then we will respond accordingly. He also said that the nationality of the people on the boat is not clear and America will take a decision according to the facts. Right now we are collecting evidence.
Rubio further said that it is very unusual to see such firing in the open ocean, because it does not happen every day. To be honest, this has not happened with Cuba for a very long time. He told that the American Coast Guard is in constant contact with the Cuban Border Guard. Also said that America will not rely on the information given by the Cuban government and will investigate the facts of the case itself.
