Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) Conclave 2026 was organized in New Delhi. DNPA Chairperson and Manorama Online CEO Mariam Mammen Mathew inaugurated the DNPA Conclave on Thursday. In this, issues like future of digital journalism, AI, regulatory reforms were discussed. He said, the changes taking place in AI and digital world are also changing the news industry. From making news to delivering it to people and earning from it, there is a big change in all these methods.
Discussion on use of AI in newsroom
The discussion at the conclave focused on how newsrooms can be adapted to an AI-based ecosystem. Mariam Mammen Mathew, President of DNPA and CEO of Manorama Online, highlighted the major changes coming in the industry. According to a Times of India report, Mathew described the sector as standing at a turning point, influenced by evolving data governance norms, the changing platform economy and changing audience behaviour.
What did the DNPA chief say?
Referring to India’s emerging AI regulatory approach, he stressed the importance of constant dialogue between the government and digital publishers. He said, DNPA has interacted with policy makers on generative AI, copyright rules, digital personal data protection framework and broader regulatory developments. “Strong AI requires strong and credible journalism,” Mathew said. He stressed that innovation must be based on trust and editorial integrity.
Building on the key challenges identified at the conclave, DNPA has sought to bring together policy makers, technology leaders, industry partners and publishers to discuss the problems and find solutions. He said that in the era of AI, the biggest challenges are to create a sustainable earning model, protect intellectual property and strengthen our traffic by reducing dependence on platforms.
