Team India Do Or Die Match Against West Indies: In the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, a Super-8 match was played between India and Zimbabwe last night i.e. on 26th February. This match held at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has made the race for the semi-finals very exciting. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, Team India defeated Zimbabwe by a huge margin of 72 runs, but despite this big victory, the path of the Indian team is still full of difficulties. Let us understand how even after scoring a huge score of 256 runs, India’s fate now rests on the last match against West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Team India defeated Zimbabwe by a big margin
After losing the toss and coming to bat first, Team India defeated the Zimbabwean bowlers. Indian batsmen scored a huge score of 256/4 in the stipulated 20 overs. Seeing this mountain of runs on the Chennai pitch, it seemed that India would make a big improvement in its Net Run Rate (NRR), but for Zimbabwe, Brian Bennett played a fighting inning of 97 runs, due to which Zimbabwe scored 184/6. Team India won the match by 72 runs, but the ‘screw’ of the semi-final equation is still stuck.
Team India failed to improve net run rate
To secure a place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026, Team India had to defeat Zimbabwe by a margin of at least 148 runs. By doing this, India’s net run rate would have been better than West Indies, but the Indian team won the match by only 72 runs. This means that if both the teams remain on equal points in the points table of Group-1, then West Indies will win due to better run rate.
What is the semi-final equation next for India?
Team India now has only one way left to qualify for the semi-finals. He will have to defeat West Indies at any cost in his last match of Super-8. This match will be played on Sunday i.e. 1st March at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. With a win against West Indies, the Indian team will reach the semi-finals, because India’s points in the points table will be more than West Indies.
However, if West Indies defeats India at Eden Gardens, then Team India will become the third placed team in the points table of Group-1 and will be out of the tournament. If it rains during the match in Kolkata and the match is cancelled, then both the teams will get 1 point each. Even in such a situation, West Indies will benefit because their net run rate is better, due to which they will get the ticket for the semi-finals.
