Tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan is at its peak. According to Afghan media Tolo News, Afghan forces have shot down Pakistan’s F-16 fighter plane that violated their airspace. Videos of burning wreckage of the plane are going viral on social media.
In a video, it is being claimed that a Pakistani soldier has also been captured. Apart from Kabul, in the early hours of Friday (27 February), Pakistan carried out air strikes in Kandahar and Paktika. Pakistani security officials claim that two brigade headquarters of the Afghan army were destroyed in these attacks. At least three massive explosions were heard in Kabul, causing panic among local residents.
What did the Afghan spokesperson tell?
Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry has described this action as revenge for the attacks carried out by Pakistan on Sunday. According to Afghan spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the Afghan army destroyed 19 posts and 2 military bases of Pakistan. It has been claimed that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the ground conflict and many were captured alive. Pakistan’s statement
Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar rejected Afghanistan’s claims and said that only two of its soldiers were martyred. He claimed that 133 Afghan fighters were killed and more than 200 were injured in Pakistan’s retaliatory strike. Pakistan says that they gave a befitting reply to the Afghan attacks carried out without any provocation.
Thirteen civilians, including women and children, were injured when a missile fell on an Afghan refugee camp near the Torkham border. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appealed to both countries to ensure the safety of civilians and resolve the dispute through diplomacy.
