At least three people were killed and six others were injured in an accident on a highway in Jowzjan province in northern Afghanistan. According to Xinhua news agency, the accident occurred on Sunday (March 1, 2026) when two vehicles traveling at high speed collided in Hadbakhshi area on Jozjan-Sari Pul Highway. In this accident, both the drivers and a female passenger died on the spot, while six other people including two children were injured.
According to the statement, the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have appealed to the drivers to strictly follow the traffic rules to prevent such incidents in future. Road accidents remain a major problem in war-affected Afghanistan. Bad roads, careless driving and lack of safety measures are the main reasons for this.
Earlier on January 31, three people were killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Baghlan province of northern Afghanistan. The accident occurred when two speeding vehicles collided in Kala-e-Baday area of ​​Dushi district, in which three passengers, including a woman and a child, died on the spot.
On January 29, an accident also took place in northern Badakhshan province, in which a vehicle fell into a ditch from a mountain road. Two people died and one was injured in this accident. In December last year, at least five people were killed and 44 injured when a bus overturned in Salang area of ​​Baghlan province.
Mohammad Ashraf Hakshenas, spokesman for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works, said that the accident occurred at around 2 am on December 20 in the Shawal area, north of Salang. He said that due to high speed and careless driving, the bus went off the road and overturned, due to which five people lost their lives and 44 others were injured. The injured were admitted to Khanjan District Health Centre.
The ministry appealed to the people to follow the instructions of the authorities and keep in mind the traffic rules while traveling on this route. Officials said that snow removal work is also being done at many places on Salang Highway.
