If the match is canceled due to rain, will Team India be out? Know ICC’s rules regarding semi-finals

The second semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026 will be played between India and England on Thursday (05 March). This match will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. By winning this match, Team India will make it to the final of the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. But before the match, a question is also arising that if it rains on the day of the match, then what will be the result of the team reaching the final? Will Team India be out?

Reserve day for semi-finals

Let us tell you that a reserve day has been kept for the knockout matches of T20 World, in which the second semi-final of the tournament to be played between India and England is also present. In such a situation, if there is continuous rain on the match day i.e. Thursday and the match cannot start, then the match will be played on the next day i.e. Reserve Day (06 March).

Whereas if the match starts on March 05 and it rains in the middle of the match and the match cannot be started again, then in this situation the match will start the next day from where it had stopped the previous day.

If it rained both days

The second question is that if it rains on both the days and not even a ball is bowled in the match, then in this situation which team will get the ticket for the final? So let us tell you that in this situation, the team which performs well in Super-8 will get a place in the finals.

Simply put, if it rains on both days, England will make it to the final. England entered the semi-finals by winning all three matches of the Super-8. The team was at the first position in the points table.

On the other hand, India had won two out of three matches in Super-8. Team India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, reached the semi-finals by finishing second in the points table. In this sense, if the match is canceled, Team India’s chances of reaching the final will be cut off.
