An important information has come to light amid the increasing military tension between America and Iran. According to government sources, just a few days before the American attack on the Iranian warship IRIS Dena near Sri Lanka, Iran had sought permission from India to station another naval ship in Kochi. Due to technical fault, this ship wanted shelter at the Indian port.
Permission was sought from India on 28 February
According to government sources, Iran had contacted India on 28 February 2026 and sought permission to dock its naval ship IRIS Lavan in Kochi. Iran had told that the ship had a technical problem and it needed to stop at the port immediately. After considering this request, Indian authorities allowed the ship to dock on 1 March.
Iranian ship reached Kochi on March 4
After getting permission, the Iranian ship reached Kochi on March 4 and docked there. This ship had come to participate in the International Fleet Review organized in the area at that time. According to sources, the 183 crew members present on the ship are currently accommodated in the Indian Navy facilities located in Kochi.
This happened just before the attack on IRIS Dana
This entire incident happened just before the incident when Iran’s warship IRIS Dena sank near the southern coast of Sri Lanka. According to reports, on March 4, an American submarine targeted the ship with a torpedo in international waters, killing several Iranian sailors. The ship was returning from a multinational naval exercise held in India when it was attacked.
Iran strongly condemned the attack
After this attack, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly criticized America. He said that America has committed a serious crime at sea and attacked without warning in international waters. He wrote on social media that America has set such a dangerous example for which it will have to suffer “bitter consequences”.
Sri Lanka launched rescue operation
After the attack, Sri Lanka launched a massive search and rescue operation. The Sri Lankan Navy rescued many sailors from the sea and took the injured to the hospital. Sri Lankan President Anura Dissanayake said that no innocent person should ever die in war. Therefore, the Sri Lankan government launched a rescue operation to save the people on the ship.
