Pakistan is currently facing a serious shortage of petrol and diesel. In many areas like Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab (Pakistan) and Sindh, people are complaining about not getting fuel at petrol pumps. Petrol pumps are lying empty at many places and people are not getting petrol and diesel even after standing in long queues. Meanwhile, the Government of Pakistan has announced an increase in the prices of petrol. According to the new prices, the price of high speed petrol has become 335 Pakistani rupees per liter and the price of normal petrol has become 321 Pakistani rupees per liter.
According to the report, Pakistan fulfills about 35 percent of its total oil requirement from oil coming illegally from Iran. The biggest impact is seen in Balochistan, where about 80 percent of the petrol and diesel requirement is met by Iranian oil. Similarly, about 20 percent of the oil requirement in Sindh, about 18 percent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and about 13 percent in Punjab is met by the oil coming from Iran. Iranian oil is much cheaper than oil from other countries, hence its consumption is high in many areas of Pakistan.
Impact on oil supply due to Middle East
Oil supply has also been affected due to the increasing war in the Middle East and the impact of the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan says that it has a stock of petrol and diesel for about 24 days, but due to the war situation, oil is not being supplied properly through other routes. Along with this, due to the ongoing war in Iran, petrol and diesel coming from there is also not able to reach Pakistan. Its biggest impact is visible in Balochistan, where more than 70 percent of petrol pumps are said to be empty.

On the other hand, this crisis has not had any major impact on the prices of petrol and diesel in India at present. Recently Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said that India has oil reserves of about 74 days. Apart from this, America has also given permission to India to buy oil from Russia for 30 days, after which India can buy large quantities of oil from Russia. At present, the prices of petrol and diesel remain normal in major cities of India and no new increase has been announced.
