South African player threatened New Zealand by calling them ‘chokers’, said – if we do not win the final against India…

The final of T20 World Cup 2026 will be played between India and New Zealand on Sunday (08 March). Before the match, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn threatened the Kiwi team by calling them ‘chokers’. Steyn said that this tag is given to Africa, but if New Zealand is unable to defeat India in the final, then he will give this tag to New Zealand.

While talking to AB de Villiers on YouTube, Steyn said, “Look, let’s be honest. New Zealand. Everyone calls South Africa bran, but I am going to say this. New Zealand themselves have not won many World Cups and they have played more finals than us, so New Zealand, don’t feel bad, but win this time.

Steyn further said, “Otherwise, I am officially handing that card (chokers) to you. I love New Zealand, but they will not be able to beat India. For this to happen, India will have to make a huge mistake. I am saying that it is possible. I really want them to win, but do I think they will be able to beat India? No.”

Talking about New Zealand’s record, the team has reached the ICC finals eight times since winning the 2000 ICC Knockout Trophy, but they have won only one final in the form of 2021 World Test Championship, when they defeated India.

AB de Villiers hates New Zealand

AB de Villiers while talking said, “This is why I hate New Zealand. In 2015, they could never beat Australia in the final. I mean, people will be angry with me for saying this, but there was only one team to beat Australia in Australia, and that was South Africa. Now we see New Zealand again in the final and they will play India in India.”

De Villiers further said, “I have a lot of respect for New Zealand as a sporting nation. Dale, if they win the T20 World Cup, both of our lives will be in danger.”
