Every year new records are made in IPL, the world’s biggest T20 league, and many old records are broken. However, there are some achievements which remain unbroken even today. IPL 2026 is going to start from March 28 and before that, fans are once again remembering those records which are considered very difficult to break. Let us know about 5 such big records.
1. Chris Gayle’s historic score of 175 not out
The biggest individual score not only in IPL but in the entire T20 cricket is in the name of Chris Gayle. In 2013, while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, he scored unbeaten 175 runs in 66 balls against Pune Warriors India. In this innings he hit 17 sixes and 13 fours. This innings was so explosive that even today no batsman has been able to come close to it.
2. Virat Kohli’s great season in 2016
The IPL 2016 season was in the name of Virat Kohli. He scored 973 runs in 16 innings that year. During this period his average was 81.08 and he also scored 4 centuries. Till date no batsman has been able to come close to this figure. In 2023, Shubman Gill had scored 890 runs, while Jos Buttler tried by scoring 863 runs, but crossing the 900 mark still remains a big challenge.
3. Alzarri Joseph’s debut spell
West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2019. In this match played against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he took 6 wickets for just 12 runs in 3.4 overs. Earlier this record was in the name of Sohail Tanvir, who had performed 6/14.
4. Great partnership between Kohli and AB de Villiers
The record of the biggest partnership in IPL history is in the name of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. On 14 May 2016, both the batsmen made a partnership of 229 runs against Gujarat Lions at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In this match, De Villiers scored unbeaten 129 runs in 52 balls, while Kohli played an inning of 109 runs in 55 balls. Thanks to this partnership, RCB made a huge score of 248/3 and won the match by 144 runs.
5. Fastest century in 30 balls
Chris Gayle accomplished another historic feat on 23 April 2013. He scored a century in just 30 balls against Pune Warriors India. This is considered to be the fastest century in professional cricket and this record still stands today.
