The heat of war that broke out in one corner of the world has now started reaching the quiet valleys of Uttarakhand and the homes of the capital Dehradun. The ongoing war and instability in West Asia has had a direct impact on the city’s LPG supply. For the last few days, there is a huge shortage of LPG in Dehradun, which has put the common man’s stove in danger. The situation is such that people are now forced to leave their offices and work and stand in long queues outside gas agencies and warehouses.
‘Waiting’ for booking and ‘tension’ of supply
The shortage of gas in the city has reminded people of the old days even in the era of Digital India. The biggest complaint of consumers is regarding gas booking. Many people are calling mobile numbers the whole day, but the call is not being connected to the booking number. Due to technical difficulties and disruption in the supply chain, the booking process has completely come to a standstill. Even for those whose booking is being done somehow, it is taking more than a week for the cylinder to reach their homes.
Ground report: “Waiting for a week, still empty handed”
Our correspondent Alok Semwal went to Ground Zero and heard the problems of the people. While sharing his story, local resident Ashok said that I had booked gas on the 5th. Today a week has passed, but there is no trace of the cylinder. The house is about to run out of gas and if you go to inquire at the agency, you don’t get a clear answer. Can’t understand how the food will be prepared?
Questions raised on government system
Now the biggest question is, what concrete steps are the Government of India and the Petroleum Ministry taking to deal with this crisis? What options are being explored so that the impact of external circumstances like war does not fall directly on the plate of the common citizen of the country? At present, the people of Dehradun have only the support of assurances, whereas on the ground, long queues in search of gas cylinders and emptying wallets are telling a different story. The administration should improve the distribution system as soon as possible and curb the possibilities of black marketing.
Report from Varanasi regarding problems after cylinder booking
Dinesh Dixit, a resident of Pandepur in Varanasi, said that on Wednesday night he called about five times from his mobile phone for booking, but the next morning he received a message confirming the booking. After this, he was surprised when he reached the agency and did not get the LPG cylinder, yet it was confirmed on his mobile message that the cylinder has been delivered to him. Till the time of receiving the report, they have not received the cylinder, due to which they are facing a lot of problems.
In another case, Alok Kumar Vishwakarma, a resident of Hukulganj, Varanasi, says that his family requires an LPG cylinder every 18 to 20 days. According to the current rule, booking will now be done at an interval of 25 days. It has been almost three days since he booked but he still has not received the cylinder from the agency and the trolley driver, due to which he is facing a lot of problems. The biggest thing is that due to Holi, their cylinder has also exhausted quickly and now they have to depend on other resources.
Patna
The district administration is claiming that there is no shortage of domestic gas cylinders anywhere and if anyone does black marketing then action will be taken against them, but the big thing is whether there is a shortage of gas or not. This will be known only when the gas quantity is taken. Earlier the number used to be given in 15 days but now it is being given after 25 days. The toll free mobile number given for gas booking is not available even after many efforts. A consumer told that there is no problem of gas but when the number is not available then how will the gas be available. When the gas agency was contacted, they said that the server is running a little poorly and will be fixed in a day or two.
Noida
The effect of international conditions and supply disruptions is now visible in many cities of India. Even in Noida and Greater Noida, people are continuously facing problems regarding LPG. Many consumers say that gas cylinders have been booked but are not being delivered on time. Some people allege that bookings are not being done, due to which everyday life is being affected.
Rajesh, a resident of Noida, told that he tried to book a gas cylinder several times, but his cylinder was not able to be booked. He said that even after calling from the consumer number, no message is coming nor the booking is being confirmed. Due to this problem, people are facing a lot of problems and many families are troubled for the last several days.
Jaipur
The government may be claiming that the supply of LPG is on track, but the reality is that people are facing all kinds of problems. At present, the biggest problem people are facing is regarding booking of new cylinders. This problem has persisted continuously for the last one week. For the last two days the server is not working at all. Due to server shutdown, people are not able to make new bookings. When they call the numbers of helplines and agencies, most of the numbers are either switched off or no proper response is being given on them.
Some are worried about booking for three days and some for four and five days. Most of the consumers are quarreling over the fact that the government has told that the next booking will be done after 25 days, whereas the people of the agencies inform that the rule has changed 2 days ago and now the next booking will be done not after 25 but after 40 days.
