Android Smartphones Are At Risk: If you are using an Android smartphone then a big danger is looming. Actually, the researcher has detected a security flaw in MediaTek’s Android chipset, with the help of which user data can be stolen. Due to this, crores of Android phones using MediaTek chipset have now become the target of hackers. Due to the chipset flaw, hackers can decrypt protected data from user’s devices with the help of a simple USB connection, even if the user’s phone is switched off.
Got access in less than a minute
Ledger’s Chief Technology Officer Charles Guillemet claims that millions of smartphones are at risk due to this security flaw. Ledger researchers had tested this flaw on CMF Phone 1. MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset is installed in this phone. The researchers were easily able to bypass the security of this phone and extract information. It took him 45 seconds to do this, even though the phone was switched off. The researcher also had the option to access the decrypted storage of the phone.
No need for malware
Attackers do not even need to install malware to take advantage of this flaw. They have to connect the phone with the computer for a few seconds and they can steal all the important information including PIN, password from the phone.
Threat to users around the world
Industry experts estimate that about 25 percent of Android smartphones worldwide have MediaTek processors. This means that almost every fourth Android smartphone user may be affected by this flaw. MediaTek is also aware of this flaw and the company has also released a security patch for it. The company has advised all users to update their phones.
