Before the start of IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals has suffered a big setback. Veteran England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has resigned from the post of mentor of Delhi Capitals. Pietersen confirmed through social media that he will not be a part of the Delhi team this time. He had joined the DC franchise only last year to nurture young talent.
Kevin Pietersen wrote on social media that he will not be the mentor of Delhi Capitals this year. He also told that he will remain a part of the Indian Premier League as a commentator. Leaving the post of mentor, he has sent his best wishes to the team and players of Delhi Capitals.

Was criticized for celebrating holidays
Last year, Kevin Pietersen went on a holiday in the middle of the season. Delhi Capitals had played only 3 matches when Kevin Pietersen went to Maldives for a week’s holiday. On his return, Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul also made fun of him.
No information has been revealed yet on whether Delhi Capitals will get a new mentor for IPL 2026 or not. Let us tell you that Lucknow Super Giants team also does not have any mentor. Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan were mentors for LSG last season, but now they too have left. Delhi Capitals was ranked fifth in the points table of IPL 2025.
When is the first match of Delhi Capitals?
BCCI had recently released the schedule of only 20 matches for IPL 2026. Delhi Capitals will play its first match with Lucknow Super Giants on 1st April and this match will be played in Lucknow. After this, it has to face Mumbai Indians on 4th April, Gujarat Titans on 8th April and Chennai Super Kings on 11th April.
