LPG Crisis: How many days of LPG is there in the Shivalik and Nanda Devi ships coming to India?

India has succeeded in evacuating its two ships Shivalik and Nanda Devi from the Strait of Hormuz which is closed due to the ongoing war between Iran and America. Both these ships are loaded with LPG gas, but the question is whether if the LPG loaded on these two ships reaches India, then the LPG crisis in India will end for a few days. Is there so much LPG on both these ships that India can face the LPG crisis for the next few days or is there not going to be any immediate relief from the LPG loaded on these ships. What is the truth about LPG loaded on Shivalik and Nanda Devi, today we will talk in detail.

In fact, Iran had allowed Indian flagged Shivalik and Nanda Devi to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on March 14 itself. After leaving the Strait of Hormuz, both these ships are moving towards India, out of which one ship Shivalik is reaching Mundra Port of India and the other Nanda Devi is being docked at Kandla Port of India. According to Rajesh Kumar, Special Secretary, Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways, a total of 92,700 metric tons of gas is loaded on both these ships.

Among these, about 45 thousand metric tons of gas is loaded on Shivalik, while 47,700 metric tons of gas is loaded on Nanda Devi. Whereas the daily consumption of LPG in India is around 85 to 90 thousand metric tons. And in this context, if we look at the gas consumption of both the ships, then this gas can hardly last more than a day, whereas it takes three to four days for it to reach India after leaving the Strait of Hormuz. In such a situation, the gas that has just reached India will last only for one and a half days.

According to Rajesh Kumar, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, a total of 22 Indian flagged ships are still stuck in the Persian Gulf. ये अब भी स्ट्रेट ऑफ होर्मुज से बाहर नहीं निकल पाए हैं. So there is nothing special to be done with the gas from these two ships.

Yes, it is true that the production in India has increased by 28 percent, hence the old production has increased from 1.158 million tons per month to about 1.5 million tons per month. And because of this, India itself has started producing so much gas that 15 days of work can be done comfortably. The way Iran has just allowed two ships to pass through Hormuz, if Iran agrees to give way to Indian ships, then within a few days India’s gas supply will be restored as before and then all the problems will end.
