Sheetal Kumar has been given the new responsibility as South Salmara, 2020 batch IPS officer Aanchal Chauhan has been given the new responsibility as Sadiya, 2013 batch IPS officer Sudhakar Singh has been given the new responsibility as Chirang and 2016 batch IPS officer Mohan Lal Meena has been given the new responsibility as SSP of Dhemaji district of Assam.

According to the order, all IPS officers have been appointed with immediate effect and have been directed to assume charge before 11 am on Tuesday (March 17, 2026).

Special observer also appointed to conduct fair elections

Central Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Gyanesh Kumar, while announcing the date of elections in the press conference held on Sunday (March 15, 2026), had also assured that the elections in all the states including Assam will be peaceful and fair. To fulfill this objective, ECI has posted/transferred senior police officers in Assam.

Apart from this, the Election Commission has also appointed retired IAS officer Manjit Singh as Special Observer for Assam to conduct fair, transparent and peaceful elections in the state. He will monitor the fair and transparent electoral process in the state.
