BJP and Congress have won one seat each in Haryana Rajya Sabha elections. BJP’s Sanjay Bhatia and Congress’s Karamveer Boudh have been elected Rajya Sabha MPs. BJP supported independent candidate Satish Nandal has to face defeat. After the counting of votes lasted till late night, the election results were declared at around 1.30 in the night.
Five Congress MLAs cross-voted and voted in support of the independent candidate. The votes of four Congress MLAs were declared invalid, while the vote of one BJP MLA was also declared invalid. Two MLAs of the Indian National Lok Dal did not participate in the voting.
This is the victory of democracy – Hooda
Whereas former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda called it a victory of democracy and said that BJP tried its best to steal votes but could not defeat the Congress candidate. He said that this election was a big challenge for Congress but they overcame it. Hooda said that all the Congress MLAs who voted in favor of the independent candidate have been exposed in front of the people of the state.
The message will go across the country – Congress
Haryana Congress in-charge BK Hariprasad said that today’s result will send a message to the entire country. He said that BJP tried its best to buy Congress MLAs and BJP leaders had also reached Shimla for this but they could not defeat the Congress candidate. He said that action will be taken against all the Congress MLAs who have voted for the BJP candidate.
Congress does not trust MLAs- CM Saini
On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said on the election results that Congress did not have confidence in its MLAs, hence the MLAs were taken captive and big Congress leaders became polling agents. He said that INLD also became the B team of Congress in this election. And indirectly supported Congress in this election.
