Pakistan is being heavily criticized after losing the ODI series against Bangladesh. After the team’s defeat, former Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has made a scathing attack on the captain and the team management. He even said that in the current situation, Pakistan team has started looking like an “associate team”.
shameful performance of pakistan
Bangladesh defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the three-match ODI series played in March 2026. The decisive third match was played at Sher-e-Bangla in Dhaka, where Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 11 runs and won the series.
The first match of the series was also easily won by Bangladesh, in which Pakistan team was reduced to just 114 runs. Although in the second match, Pakistan came back and won and leveled the series 1-1, but in the third and decisive match, the team came under pressure and lost the series.
Ahmed Shahzad’s sharp statement
After losing the series, Ahmed Shehzad expressed his displeasure over the team’s performance. He said that if Pakistan’s performance continues like this then the situation of the team could be like Zimbabwe. He also raised questions on the captaincy of captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and said that the team is not able to handle the match properly. Be it chasing the target or defending the score, the team looks weak in both the situations.
Questions raised on team management also
Ahmed Shahzad also raised questions on the team coach Mike Hesson and the management strategy. He says that poor performance cannot be justified by using the absence of senior players as an excuse. He said that the team did not learn any lesson from its mistakes even after its early exit from the T20 World Cup. This is the reason why the situation is continuously getting worse.
Discussion on absence of senior players
Many experienced players of Pakistan were not part of the team in this series. Senior players like Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman were given rest. However, Shahzad believes that lack of senior players alone cannot be blamed as the reason for the defeat. He says that the team needs to improve both its strategy and performance.
This defeat of Pakistan has once again exposed the weaknesses of the team. Now it remains to be seen what lesson the team and management take from this criticism in the future.
