‘Did Sunil Gavaskar boycott commentary?’, Pakistan origin player targets Indian legend

Sunil Gavaskar had criticized the Sunrisers Leeds franchise because they had bought Pakistani player Abrar Ahmed for ‘The Hundred’ league. After this, English player of Pakistani origin Azim Rafiq has targeted the Indian legend. He asked whether ‘Has Gavaskar ever boycotted commentary in any match?’ But after this the English player is facing trolling on social media for his reaction.

Sun Group, which owns Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, also owns The Hundred franchise Sunrisers Leeds. Kavya Maran was also present during the auction, when Leeds bought Pakistani player Abrar Ahmed for Rs 2.35 crore. Criticizing this in his column on Mid-Day, Sunil Gavaskar wrote that Indian owners should understand the situation and avoid buying Pakistani players. Gavaskar believes that this money can indirectly be used for the death of Indian soldiers and civilians.

Pakistani-origin English player Azim Rafiq wrote on X regarding Gavaskar’s statement, “This is ridiculous and should be condemned. I don’t care how many runs you have scored.” In another post, Rafiq wrote, “Has Gavaskar boycotted commentating in any match? I don’t think so.”

Sunil Gavaskar gave a strong reaction in his column and wrote, ‘Is winning this tournament more important than the lives of Indian people?’ He had said that if the team owners are Indians then they are indirectly giving money to the system which can lead to the death of Indian soldiers and people.

English players got trolled

Rafiq had to face trolling after the post on Gavaskar. One user wrote, “Why should they boycott him?” He is not taking money from Pakistani broadcasters. Another user wrote, ‘Stop whining and debate their facts. is that wrong? Until Pakistan stops using terrorism as its official policy, it cannot expect normal relations with India or Indians. Stop begging for validation from others.
