US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that Washington could blow up the South Pars gas field on a large scale if Tehran launches more attacks on Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, as the growing conflict in the Middle East threatens global energy supplies.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he did not want to authorize such destruction, but would do so if Qatar’s LNG facilities were targeted again. The US President said that I do not want to authorize this level of violence because it will have a very bad impact on the future of Iran, but if Qatar’s LNG is attacked again then I will not hesitate to do so.
What did Qatar Energy say?
This warning comes at a time when Qatar has said that Iranian missile attacks have caused severe damage to additional LNG sites in the country. Qatar’s state oil and gas company Qatar Energy said Thursday that the missile attacks had damaged facilities and caused major fires. Firefighters are busy extinguishing the fire and there is no news of anyone being injured so far.
