Apart from Qatar-Saudi-Kuwait, India is now buying LPG from this country, big statement of the government amid the Middle East war.

In view of the possible shortage of LPG, the government said on Thursday (19 March 2026) that India is now buying gas from America besides the Middle East, so that the blockage in the supply chain can be removed. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that the situation is definitely worrying due to the ongoing war, but there is no report of gas shortage at any LPG distributor in the country.

He said that online booking has increased to 94 percent and about 83 percent cylinder delivery is being done through delivery authentication code. He said that there has been a decline in panic bookings and about 57 lakh refill bookings were received on Wednesday. He further said that the delivery of LPG cylinders is continuing normally.

Attack on gas storage center unacceptable: India

Amid concerns raised by fresh attacks on gas storage facilities in West Asia, India said such attacks are unacceptable and should be stopped. Regarding this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the situation in West Asia by talking to French President Emmanuel Macron, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim.

Iran has targeted several energy facilities in the Middle East, including Qatar’s LNG facility at Ras Laffan in response to Israeli attacks on its South Pars gas fields. India described the attacks as extremely disturbing and said they would further destabilize an already uncertain global energy sector.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘India had earlier called for refraining from targeting civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure, across the region. The recent attacks on energy facilities in various locations in the region are extremely troubling and will only further destabilize an already uncertain global energy sector. Such attacks are unacceptable and must be stopped.
