Government takes action on Middle East crisis, formation of Inter Ministerial Group, Rajnath Singh becomes Chairman

In view of the ongoing tension in the Middle East and its possible impact on India, the Central Government has taken a big decision on Friday (27 March 2026). According to sources, the government has formed an inter-ministerial group regarding the Middle East crisis, which will be headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. This group also includes Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri and many other ministers.

Why was the Inter Ministerial Group formed?

The Central Government has constituted this committee to monitor the impact of increasing tension in West Asia, especially the aspects related to energy supply, economic situation and security. The worsening situation on the Strait of Hormuz has affected the supply and price of oil around the world. The central government said on Friday (27 March 2026) that there will be no change in the retail prices of petrol and diesel. The ministry said that the cut in excise duty compensates Rs 10 per liter of these losses, allowing oil marketing companies to continue supplying fuel without any interruption while keeping the retail prices unchanged.

India maintained stability in fuel prices

Since the beginning of the Middle East crisis, fuel prices have increased by 30 to 50 percent in South and South-East Asian countries, 30 percent in North America and 20 percent in Europe. India has maintained stability in fuel prices. This stagnation has a financial cost and the government has chosen to bear it.

Rajnath Singh presided over the all party meeting

After this meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, the government has resolved all the questions and confusions of the opposition. Many members wanted to know the details of gas and petroleum supply from the Strait of Hormuz and they all are satisfied that Indian ships are coming from there.
