Amid supply challenges due to the Iran war, the government has given top priority to domestic LPG and PNG, while hospitals and educational institutions are also being given high priority. Several steps have been taken on both the supply and demand sides, including increasing refinery production, increasing LPG booking interval from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and to 45 days in rural areas. To reduce the demand for LPG, alternative fuels like kerosene and coal have also been made available.

Center gave instructions to states to allocate more coal

According to the report, the Coal Ministry has instructed Coal India and Singareni Collieries to allocate more coal to the states. The government has also asked states to consider targeted distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders as per local need. More than 5 lakh small cylinders have been sold since March 23, out of which more than 67,000 were sold on Thursday (April 2, 2026) alone.
