Assam Assembly Election 2026: Jorhat ready for assembly elections; Deploying officers to ensure voting

Along with the entire Assam, Jorhat is also fully prepared for the assembly elections to be held on 9th April. The district administration has completed all necessary preparations to ensure free, fair and peaceful voting. As part of the final phase of preparations, polling and presiding officers were dispatched from Jorhat Government Boys School to their designated polling stations. These officers will monitor the voting process at various polling stations along with necessary election material and ensure all arrangements.

According to official figures, there are a total of 886 polling stations in Jorhat district, spread across Jorhat, Titabor, Mariani and Teok assembly constituencies. A total of 7,11,747 voters will exercise their franchise in the district.

What information did the District Commissioner give?

District Commissioner Jai Shivani said that all preparations for voting have been completed. He informed that the mock poll will start at 5:30 am on April 9 and the voting process will start from 7:00 am.

He also said that the Election Commission of India has been providing the facility of voting from home for the disabled and elderly voters for the last few years. Around 400 voters in Jorhat have already cast their votes under this facility.

Prominent political personalities Pavitra Margarita and Gaurav Gogoi will vote in Jorhat. Apart from this, about 15 to 20 former MPs, MLAs and other distinguished persons will also exercise their franchise here.

As part of security arrangements, Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) has been deployed at all the polling stations. 22 polling stations in the district have been kept in ‘critical’ category, where additional security forces will be deployed. Officials clarified that there is no ‘vulnerable’ polling station in the district.

District administration launched awareness campaign to increase voting percentage

To increase the voting percentage, the SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation) cell of the district administration has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign. This includes mascot launches, awareness programs in colleges, broadcast of special messages in cinema halls, campaigning on radio, voter competitions and rallies in villages. Also, under the special revision campaign, names of dead, transferred and duplicate voters have been removed from the list by going door-to-door, which is expected to increase the voting percentage.

Meanwhile, the employees engaged in election duty are also excited. Priyanka Bora, who is doing election duty for the first time, said, “This is my first election duty. I hope everything will go well and I am full of confidence in fulfilling my responsibilities.”

A total of 2,49,58,139 voters will exercise their franchise in 126 assembly constituencies across Assam. The administration has reiterated its commitment to conduct peaceful and transparent elections across the state. With all the preparations, Jorhat is fully prepared for the democratic festival to be held on 9th April.
