US Iran War: Former senior diplomat of Pakistan Abdul Basit said important things while talking to ABP News regarding the ceasefire declared between Iran and America. He clearly said that the current situation is of fragile ceasefire i.e. weak and fragile ceasefire. According to Basit, the US Foreign Minister himself has agreed that this ceasefire is not stable. He told that many countries and parties are involved in this whole matter, and there are some who do not want this ceasefire to be successful. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that a consensus could be reached through talks.
Abdul Basit expressed his opinion on the current situation in the Middle East. He said that such small incidents keep happening during the ceasefire and the real situation will be known only after talks. He also indicated that Pakistan’s role could be important in this entire matter, especially in the process of negotiation and agreement. Even though ceasefire has been announced, looking at the ground situation it is still difficult to say how long the peace will last.
What did Abdul Basit say on Israel Lebanon?
When Abdul Basit was asked why Israel is continuously attacking Lebanon despite the ceasefire and why Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif included Lebanon in his statement, Basit admitted that there is still some confusion on this issue. However, he said that a clear consensus is expected to be reached on this during the talks.
Question related to Shahbaz Sharif’s post
On the question of Shehbaz Sharif editing his social media post thrice, Basit called it a normal thing. He said that such small things keep happening in such large-scale negotiations and there is no need to exaggerate them. According to him, the most important thing is that the ceasefire should remain intact and Pakistan has made efforts in that direction.
When asked about the future, Basit said that Israel has its own view on Lebanon, but Pakistan is confident that a permanent ceasefire can be achieved through talks. If seen from one side, it is clear from Basit’s statement that the situation is not completely stable yet, but diplomatic efforts are going on and everyone’s eyes are fixed on the upcoming talks.
