Year Ender 2025: The year 2025 has not been a year of any common upgrade. Nor was it limited to just a slightly better camera or “slightly faster processor”. This year has been full of experiments, at some places a little strange and at others quite fun. Companies experimented a lot, somewhere huge batteries were inserted, somewhere the phones were made smaller again, gaming was taken to new heights, AI was included in every feature and yes, the prices also increased, that too without much noise.
Before we step into 2026, let’s take a look back at the big trends that will define the smartphone industry in 2025. Believe me, a lot has changed here.
7000mAh large battery
Till a few years ago, 5000mAh battery was considered perfect. But in 2025 this standard changed completely. Companies have understood one thing clearly that users do not want battery tension. Due to silicon-carbon battery technology, more power can now be packed without making the phone thick. The result was that not only flagships but also mid-range phones started crossing the limit of 7000mAh. Vivo T4 jumped from 5000mAh to 7300mAh battery. Oppo K13 went straight from 5500mAh to 7000mAh. Phones like iQOO Neo 10, OnePlus Nord CE5 and Poco F7 also surprised everyone with batteries of more than 7000mAh. By the end of the year, this trend also became common in premium phones like Oppo Find X9 series and Realme GT 8 Pro.
The return of compact smartphones
Over the years, phones had become so big that using them with one hand seemed no less than a gym exercise. In 2025, it was as if the users collectively said no more. Brands also took the hint and compact flagship phones made a comeback. Phones like OnePlus 13s, Vivo X200 FE, iPhone Air and Samsung S25 Edge proved that even a small phone can be powerful.
These devices came with premium features but did not feel like a chopping board in the pocket. It is difficult to say whether this trend will continue in 2026 or not. But for now, 2025 is no less than a gift for those who like small phones.
Gaming phones are no longer just niche products
Mobile gaming has seen a huge boom in 2025, especially in India where there are now more than 50 crore gamers. In such a situation, how could smartphone companies miss this opportunity? The result was that gaming features now became a part of mainstream phones. Large vapor chambers, active cooling fans, shoulder triggers, RGB lights and displays ranging from 144Hz to 165Hz became commonplace.
Phones like Oppo K13 Turbo, iQOO 15, OnePlus 15 and Realme GT 8 Pro were launched directly keeping in mind the hardcore gamers. Even Apple was not left behind, vapor chamber cooling was seen for the first time in iPhone 17 Pro models. When Apple also started paying attention to cooling, then understand how big mobile gaming has become. And this trend is not going to stop right now.
Artificial Intelligence
If 2024 was the year of AI noise, then 2025 was the year of AI working. This time the focus was on agentic AI, that is, such an AI which does not just wait for orders, but works by understanding itself. The on-device AI really did wonders. Real-time translation during calls, instant summaries of meetings and documents, smart photo editing and situational reminders are now common in premium phones.
Google took the lead with Gemini Live and Magic Cue with the Pixel 10 series. Galaxy AI has been further improved in Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Whereas Apple seemed a little calm in this race. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see in 2026 how Apple strengthens its AI story again.
Rising prices of flagship phones
One thing became clear in 2025, premium smartphones have now become more expensive. Many brands increased prices by 15 to 30 percent. The price of Realme GT 8 Pro went straight from Rs 59,999 to Rs 72,999. There was a jump of about ₹ 18,000 in the flagship of iQOO. Oppo Find X9 Pro was launched at Rs 1,09,999, while Vivo X300 series was also not cheap.
Apple too was not untouched by this. The starting price of iPhone 17 was Rs 82,900, 17 Pro reached Rs 1,34,900 and 17 Pro Max reached Rs 1,49,900. It is clear that buying a new iPhone now demands a heavier wallet than ever before.
