Before the first phase of voting in West Bengal on Thursday (23 April 2026), Union Home Minister Amit Shah targeted the Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee. In an exclusive conversation with ABP News in South 24 Parganas, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the people of Bengal are ahead of BJP workers in defeating TMC.
Home Minister’s statement on allegations of nexus between BJP and Election Commission
TMC is continuously alleging nexus between BJP and Election Commission. On this, Amit Shah said, ‘There is a government opposing us in Tamil Nadu, this issue was not raised there. There is an opposition government in Kerala also, no allegations were made. Even Congress did not make any allegations against us in Assam. It is only Mamata Banerjee who has problems, who is making allegations.
He said, ‘Mamata Banerjee does not hear the voice of the public. I am telling them the voice of the people of Bengal. She listens a little loudly, so I said, open your ears and listen, what’s the harm in it. One should listen only with open ears. Mamata Banerjee can see her defeat. He said that after forming the government, stopping and removing infiltrators will be our priority.
Infiltrators cannot remain in the country: Amit Shah
He said, ‘Infiltrators cannot live in this country. Making Aadhaar card, making Panchayat admission, allowing infiltrators to stay in the village and not allowing fencing in the border area, Mamata Banerjee is saying by doing all this that you should stop the infiltrators. This is like tying your hands and putting them in the sea and telling you to swim out. It cannot happen like this. I want to tell the voters of the entire country that when we came to Tripura, infiltration stopped there. Came to Assam and stayed there also. Our government will be formed in Bengal also on May 5 and infiltration will stop.
On the issue of women’s safety in Bengal, Home Minister Amit Shah said, ‘CM Mamata Banerjee herself says that women should not go out after 7 o’clock. I want to tell the mothers and sisters that after the formation of the BJP government on May 5, we want to give constitutional rights to women.
