iPhone Model Number: A Jaipur resident had purchased a refurbished iPhone but later found out that the phone was actually a store demo unit. The surprising thing was that he had bought this phone after watching a video of a local Instagram influencer. This is the reason why even today many people believe what they see on social media without investigating.
Such mistakes are common while buying iPhone in India. Today iPhones are sold as new, used, refurbished, replacement and even demo units. Therefore, whether you are buying the phone, got it as a gift or got it back after repair, it is very important to check the model number of the iPhone.
How to check iPhone model number?
According to the report of Indian Express, it is very easy to know the real identity of iPhone and it does not require any app or expert.
- First of all open Settings in iPhone.
- Then go to General and open the About section.
- Here you will see the Model Number which will be something like MG2V4HN/A.
The first letter or code of this model number tells whether your iPhone is new, refurbished or something else.
What does the first letter of the model number mean?
If the model number starts with M then it means that your iPhone is brand new and Apple has sold it as a fresh unit. This phone never went for repair or service.
If the model number starts with F then this iPhone has been refurbished by Apple. That means the phone was previously used and then Apple repaired it and sold it again.
If the first letter is N then it is a replacement unit. Such iPhones are given when a customer’s phone is replaced during repair. It is not new but comes in refurbished category.
If the model number starts with P, it means that at the time of purchasing the phone, an engraving i.e. name or message was engraved on it.
Whereas if the model number starts with 3A then it is a clear indication that the phone has been a store demo unit which is usually used for display in showrooms.
Why is this testing necessary while buying an iPhone?
iPhone is a premium phone and people spend huge amount of money for it. In such a situation, if a refurbished or demo unit is given a new phone, then it is a direct fraud. By looking at the model number, you can know the truth in seconds and avoid falling into the trap of any seller or influencer.
What things should you keep in mind while buying a refurbished iPhone?
The most important thing before buying a refurbished iPhone is the credibility of the seller. Please see review, rating and return policy. Reputable sellers usually also offer warranties. Warranty is very important. It is better to choose a phone with at least 6 months warranty. Apart from this, definitely check that the iPhone network is unlocked. Locked phone can become a big problem in future.
Take the decision only after seeing the physical condition of the phone yourself. Don’t rely solely on photos or WhatsApp videos. Battery health should be at least 80% and all features like Wi-Fi, SIM, touchscreen, microphone should be working properly. Also ensure that the phone has original (OEM) parts and is running on the latest or at least supported iOS version.
