CBI i.e. Central Bureau of Investigation has exposed a big bribery racket spread in the Central GST (CGST) Department in Jhansi. Taking action, CBI has arrested him red handed taking bribe of Rs 70 lakh in CGST Jhansi. In this case, CBI has arrested a Deputy Commissioner (IRS officer), two superintendents, a lawyer and the owner of a private company.
According to CBI, it is alleged that officers of CGST Jhansi had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 crore in exchange for giving benefits to private companies in cases related to GST evasion. On the basis of this complaint, CBI registered a case on 30 December 2025 and laid a trap.
Superintendent caught taking Rs 70 lakh
During the trap, CBI caught two superintendents red handed while taking bribe of Rs 70 lakh. It has been told that this amount was being taken at the behest of the Deputy Commissioner. After this, the Deputy Commissioner, both the Superintendents, a lawyer and a private person were arrested.
Rs 1.60 crore cash, jewelery and documents recovered in the raid
After the arrest, CBI raided many places. During this period, about Rs 90 lakh in cash, huge quantity of jewellery, bullion and many property related documents were recovered. A total of Rs 1.60 crore cash has been seized so far. CBI said that the search and investigation is still going on.

The accused arrested by CBI include Prabha Bhandari (IRS-C&IT 2016), Deputy Commissioner, CGST Jhansi; Anil Tiwari, Superintendent, CGST Jhansi; Ajay Kumar Sharma, Superintendent, CGST Jhansi; Raju Mangatani, Proprietor, M/s Jai Durga Hardware; Naresh Kumar Gupta, Advocate.
According to CBI, all the accused will be presented in the concerned court after medical examination. With this action, questions have once again been raised on the corruption prevalent in government departments.
