‘Don’t want this money, stop toll’, Supreme Court reprimands MCD on pollution in Delhi NCR

In view of the increasing problem of pollution in Delhi NCR, the Supreme Court has given important suggestions. The court has said that MCD should try not to impose toll from October 1 to January 31 next year because the traffic jam during toll is a major cause of pollution.

The court has asked the MCD to shift the toll booth and consider it and take a decision within a week. The court has also asked the National Highways Authority of India to consider collecting toll and giving its share to MCD as an alternative. During this, the court reprimanded the MCD and said that tomorrow you will start collecting money in Connaught Place also.

During the hearing, the court was told about the problems which are the major causes of pollution in Delhi NCR, which also includes the MCD toll plaza of Delhi-Gurugram. The court was told that this toll causes hours-long traffic jams. Cars, motorcycles and other vehicles parked on the roads for hours create pollution.

Chief Justice Surya Kant said on this that why don’t the officials ask MCD not to impose any toll till January. The CJI reprimanded the MCD and said, ‘Tomorrow, for money, will you start imposing toll inside Connaught Place also?’

CJI Surya Kant said, ‘We do not want your income coming in this way, but these tolls definitely give rise to litigation. We want a concrete plan to keep the toll plaza closed from October 1 to January 31 next year.

The lawyer told the court that Gurugram is also facing a serious problem of pollution due to MCD toll. The CJI said that these are not allegations, but the truth, with which people are struggling every day. CJI said that people do not go to weddings because of the toll, they are so afraid of the traffic jams here.
