With the beginning of the new year, like the common people, the Railway Police has also resolved to further strengthen the security system. GRP Commissioner Rakesh Kalasagar said that in the year 2026, Railway Police will pay special attention to four major points. These include women’s safety, crowd control, crime detection and prevention, dealing with terrorism.
According to the Commissioner, due to huge crowd of passengers at railway stations, hasty travel and sometimes the distance from the police station, many complaints do not reach the police. A major reason for this is the lack of adequate visibility of police posts and soldiers. Regular travelers are aware of the checkpoint, but new travelers have to face problems.
‘Special help desks are being made at railway stations’
In view of these problems, special help desks are being created at railway stations for quick response. These help desks will be big and eye-catching, on which the control room numbers (1512, 1930) will also be clearly written. These will be installed at such places of the stations where there is more movement of passengers, so that they are easily visible to every passenger and any incident can be reported immediately.
At present, 20 help desks have been set up at various railway stations in the city, which include major stations like Bandra, Kalyan, LTT, Borivali, Churchgate, Asangaon, Kurla and Thane. There is a plan to install them at all the railway stations of the city in the coming time.
Two policemen will be deployed at the helpdesk
Kailashagar said that the visibility of police creates fear among criminals also. If the help desk is located at a point where entry and exit from the station occurs, thieves and other criminals remain aware of the presence of the police. For this reason the visible presence of the police is very important.
Two police personnel, one woman and one man, will be deployed at each help desk, who will be kept on duty in shifts of 12 hours each. Railway Police believes that this initiative will not only increase the safety of passengers but will also effectively curb crimes.
