Senior Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narendra Reddy have been declared elected unopposed in the biennial elections for two Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana. No other candidate filed nomination against both the leaders, due to which they were elected to the Rajya Sabha without any contest.
According to the press release issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, after the completion of the nomination process on Monday (March 9, 2026), it became clear that both the candidates have no rivals. After this, under the rules of the election process, he was declared the winner unopposed.
Elections conducted under biennial elections
This election for Rajya Sabha was conducted under the biennial elections of the year 2026. Considering the numerical strength in Telangana Assembly, Congress had made these two leaders candidates. Since no candidate from the opposition filed nomination, there was no need for elections.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer said that the Returning Officer and Additional Secretary of the State Legislature have made an official announcement in this regard. According to election officials, no other party or independent candidate filed nomination papers till the stipulated deadline.
Both the leaders have played important roles in the Congress Party.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi is counted among the well-known senior advocates of the country and prominent leaders of the Congress Party. He has been a member of Rajya Sabha before and has been effectively presenting the party’s side on many important issues in Parliament. Whereas Vem Narendra Reddy is considered a senior Congress leader associated with Telangana. He has played an active role in the politics and organization of the state. The party leadership has recognized his contribution to the organization by sending him to the Rajya Sabha.
Congress’s voice will get strengthened in Rajya Sabha
Political analysts believe that the unopposed election of these two leaders is an important political message for the Congress. This also indicates that this time there was no major conflict in the state politics regarding the Rajya Sabha elections.
The arrival of these two leaders in Rajya Sabha is expected to help Congress in strengthening its voice in the Upper House of Parliament. Party leaders say that both the experienced leaders will effectively raise the issues of Telangana in the Parliament and advocate the interests of the state.
