History of Durand Line

Durand Line is an approximately 2,640 km long disputed border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Afghanistan has long been reluctant to recognize this border as a formal international border, while Pakistan considers it a legal border. According to the report, Pakistani army allegedly crossed the Durand Line and attacked the Afghan military base. After this, the Afghan army termed it as an aggressive action and started retaliating. In such cases, there have often been allegations and counter-allegations between the two countries. Shelling and small-scale clashes have been taking place in the border areas before, but this time the news of use of heavy weapons has made the situation serious. At the same time, increasing tension on the Afghan-Pakistan border can affect trade, transit routes and the security of the local population. Besides, the international community will also keep an eye on this development.
