Apart from 13 states and union territories of the country including Bihar-UP, the process of SIR will be conducted in the entire country. Election Commission of India (ECI) has said that the process of SIR will start in the entire country from the month of April this year. This process has been completed in Bihar and currently this process is going on in 12 states, hence SIR process will be done in the remaining states.
Now SI can start from April in 23 states and union territories including Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh left in the process. Instructions have been issued by the Election Commission to the Chief Electoral Officers of these states to make preparations. The Commission has said in its notification that all the states and union territories should complete all the preliminary preparations related to SIR as soon as possible. With this, this mega-campaign can be started without any hindrance in the month of April.

SIR is to be done in Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana and Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
What happens under SIR process?
If BLO comes to your house, it is necessary to have Aadhar card, age certificate and residence certificate of the family members. Apart from this, if any member of your family has turned 18 years of age, then his/her name can be added to the voter list. If a family member has shifted to some other place, his name can be removed and the new place can be added. Apart from this, if the photo in your Voter ID is old or blurred, then you can get it removed by giving a clear photo. Under the SIR process, Booth Level Officers go door-to-door and investigate about the person registered in the voter list, in which it is found out whether the person registered currently lives there or not. Or those who have died, their names are removed from the voter list. Apart from these, errors in name, age, poor quality photo and address are corrected with this campaign.
