After 15 years, no film is releasing on Holi, exhibitors in trouble due to Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic

Films have been releasing on Holi for years and those films also got good response at the box office. But now after 15 years it is happening that no big film is being released on Holi 2026. This happened in 2011 when no big film was released on Holi.

These films released on Holi got good response

Let us tell you that in the last 26 years many films have been released on Holi. Films like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke in 2001, Malamaal Weekly in 2006, Race in 2008, Badrinath Ki Dulhania in 2017, Kesari in 2019 and Tu Jhooti Main Makkar in 2023 came to the theaters and tasted success. Madgaon Express, Swatantra Veer Savarkar were released around Holi 2024 and The Diplomat in 2025.

This happened only three times in 2002, 2003 and 2011 when no big film was released on Holi. In 2003 and 2011, the makers did not release films on Holi due to the ICC Cricket World Cup. And this time even in 2026, no film is being released on Holi and the reason for this is being considered to be the T20 World Cup.

Mardaani 3 was prepon

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Abhiraj Meenawala said that Yash Raj Films had preponed the release of Mardaani 3 to avoid the cricket fever in the country. The film was released on 30 January instead of 27 February.

The release of these films was postponed

Whereas Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and Gabru were earlier scheduled to release on March 4 and March 13. But now it is being released on 8th May and 15th May. Apart from this, due to the release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Toxic during Eid, the producers do not want to take the risk of any other release at this time.

Exhibitors in trouble due to Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic
For this reason, exhibitors are in trouble as no big film is released till March 19. Due to lack of good content, theaters have started reducing expenses by reducing the number of shows. There are reports that due to less content, multiplexes may close some screens for some time.
