A plane has crashed in Baramati, Maharashtra, in which NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is reported to be on board. This incident has come to light when Ajit Pawar was about to participate in election campaign programs in the district. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was scheduled to address several meetings as part of the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti election campaign in Baramati Taluka on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Who is Ajit Pawar?
Ajit Pawar is the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and is currently the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is the nephew of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) President Sharad Pawar. Last year, Ajit Pawar broke away from his uncle Sharad Pawar and joined the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government, after which he was made the Deputy CM.

If Ajit Pawar had followed his father’s path, he could have made a mark in Bollywood also. His father Anantrao Pawar worked with famous film director V. Shantaram in ‘Rajkamal Studio’, but Ajit, like his uncle Sharad Pawar, chose politics as his path.
Ambition to become Chief Minister
Ajit Pawar, whom people also call ‘Dada’, is considered an ambitious and plain speaking leader. It is believed that his eyes have always been on the post of Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He was angry at not being made the Deputy CM after the 2009 assembly elections, but in December 2010, he got this post in place of Chhagan Bhujbal. He had also openly criticized the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan several times.
Entry and initial journey in politics
Ajit Pawar entered politics through the family’s traditional path – through sugarcane cooperative societies. In 1991, he was elected MP from Baramati, but after six months he left the post of MP because Sharad Pawar had become the Defense Minister at that time. After this Ajit won the assembly elections and became active in state politics. When Sharad Pawar became the Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar was made Minister of State in different departments.
