Amidst the ongoing war in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has expressed anger at British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump said that he is very angry with the UK PM because he did not allow him to use Diego Garcia Island to attack Iran. Garcia Island is a military base of the United Kingdom located in the Indian Ocean.
UK PM Keir Stormer said on Sunday (1 March 2026) that his country is not involved in the ongoing war in the Middle East. He had expressed concern about the British citizens present in the Gulf countries. However, later he allowed America to use the UK base for special and limited defensive actions. Trump said that Prime Minister Starmer was too late in allowing Britain’s airports to be used for attacks.
In an interview given to The Telegraph, Trump said that the British PM was afraid of opposition in his own country and that is why he is now giving permission to use his base. Garcia Island is part of the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Trump said, ‘This had never happened before between America and Britain. Keir Starmer’s decision to stop the US military from using the Chagos Islands base is painful. Perhaps the British PM was angry about its legality.
Trump said, ‘Britain should have immediately given permission for the use of Diego Garcia, because Iran had also blamed his country for the killing of people.’
