Reddappa told him that Reddy Rajasekhar of Rayalapadu region of Karnataka state was looking for a girl for second marriage. Shoba was lured that if you get one of your daughters married, I will give you Rs 2 lakh. After agreeing to this deal, Shoba decided to sell her daughter. As per his plan, he called his eldest daughter to his house saying that he wanted to see her.

After this, the daughter was married to Rajashekhar, even though the daughter was only 14 years old. This marriage was arranged by Shoba’s mother. According to the agreement, out of Rs 2 lakh, the initial Rs 50 thousand was given. Meanwhile, Rajashekhar went to Bengaluru with the girl. But after going there, he tortured the girl every day. At one time the girl got bored and told her elder brother over the phone about her torture.
After this, with the help of her brother, she fled from Bengaluru and reached Punganur and lodged a complaint directly with the police. After this, instead of registering a case considering the incident as having taken place in Karnataka, the Punganur police handed over the girl to the officials of the State Social Welfare Department. On interrogating the girl there, the whole truth came out.
