In India, Meta last year tested the reels-first approach in which videos are suggested based on users’ preferences and viewing habits.
But many times it happens that similar videos start appearing again and again in the feed or such content appears in which you are not interested at all. In such a situation, resetting Instagram’s algorithm can become a better option.
Why does the reels algorithm get messed up?
Instagram’s algorithm works entirely on user interaction. Which reel you watch completely, which one you watch again, which one you like or comment on, the app understands your preferences from all these things. Sometimes unintentional interactions confuse the algorithms, causing similar videos to appear again and again.
Apart from this, people’s interest also keeps changing with time. The content that was liked a few months ago may not necessarily be liked today. Sometimes such content also appears in the feed which seems disturbing or completely useless. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to give a fresh start to the algorithm.
Easy way to reset algorithm in Instagram
Instagram has now given the feature to reset the suggested content within the app. For this, first open the Instagram app and go to your profile. After this, tap on the three lines option visible on the top right side. Here you will get the option of Content Preferences.
After going to Content Preferences, the option of Reset Suggested Content will appear. As soon as you tap on it, some information will appear on the screen, which will have to be read carefully and confirmed. Finally, the process will be completed by tapping on Reset Suggested Content.
What will change after reset?
After the reset, Instagram will gradually start showing Reels according to your new preferences. Initially you may see videos related to different topics so that the app can understand your new interests. Keep in mind that once reset, it cannot be taken back.
