Agniveer Kulbir Singh, who drove away the terrorists who were plotting to infiltrate on the LOC, has been awarded the Gallantry Medal on the occasion of Army Day. Kulbir Singh, who belongs to the Sikh Light Infantry (Sikhlai), is the first Agniveer in the country to be awarded the Gallantry Medal. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi honored Agniveer Kulbir Singh with the Sena Medal (Gallantry) in the investiture ceremony organized in Jaipur on the eve of Army Day. The Army is celebrating its 78th Foundation Day on Thursday. This year, the ceremony and military parade related to Army Day has been organized in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.
According to the information, in January 2025, Agniveer Kulbir Singh was posted in the security of a forward post of the Indian Army. During the same time, terrorists tried to infiltrate on the Line of Control (LOC). Kulbir Singh, with great courage and wisdom, fired heavily on the terrorists with his Light Machine Gun (LMG). Due to the hail of bullets, the terrorists fled into the Pakistani border.

Investiture ceremony organized
The investiture ceremony was held on the evening of Wednesday (January 15, 2026), in which the Army Chief awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for outstanding bravery to a total of 10 soldiers, including Agniveer Kulbir Singh. Apart from this, different units of the army were honored with citations. Of these, there are 26 units which have been awarded for their excellent work in Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.
Services of the first batch of Agniveers
This year (in 2026) the services of the first batch of Agniveers who joined the army under the Agneepath Scheme are going to be completed. In such a situation, 25 percent of these Agniveers will be selected as a regular soldier. These 25 percent fire warriors will be selected on the basis of excellent service and devotion to duty in the last four years. The remaining 75 percent will be retired. These 75 Agniveer can get jobs in state police, para-military forces or defense companies, where special reservation has been kept for them.
When did the plan to make Agniveer start?
In the year 2022, the government had started the plan to create Agniveer through Agneepath Scheme instead of direct recruitment of soldiers in the three wings of the army i.e. Army, Air Force and Navy. During these four years, Agniveers are not considered full-time soldiers. During this time, they prepare to become soldiers. In the beginning there was a lot of uproar and controversy regarding this scheme. But the government has continued the Agneepath scheme.
