The Netherlands team concluded its T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a 17-run defeat against India on Wednesday. Netherlands captain Scott Edwards praised the Indian batsmen and said that the host team has tremendous firepower till the lower order.
After scoring 193 runs losing 6 wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, Team India won the match by restricting Netherlands to the score of 176/7.
Aryan Dutt took 2 wickets for just 19 runs in 4 overs against India. Praising Aryan, the captain said, “We started very well. Full credit goes to Aryan, he has been performing brilliantly for the last few years. He gave a tough challenge to the Indian batsmen. Throughout the match we felt that we are in the competition.”
The Indian team could score only 118 runs after losing 4 wickets in 15 overs of play. After this, Shivam Dubey and Hardik Pandya batted stormily and took India to the score of 193. The captain of Netherlands has admitted that Indian batsmen have tremendous potential.
He said, “We know that they (India) have tremendous firepower till the lower order. In such a situation, it was really brilliant to keep them under control for 14-15 overs. Maybe some chances were missed, there was lack of execution at some places and such players make you pay for that. We knew that we had to take wickets continuously. They had four wickets fallen in the 16th over, which means they had wickets left, and in the end they scored runs quickly in a few overs.”

The captain said, “Coming to India, you always learn a lot because the conditions are different, the grounds are smaller, the wickets are very flat, the crowd and the atmosphere are also different. As a team, we were good in many phases, but missed important moments. As a team, we pride ourselves on playing well in big moments. We played very good cricket, but there were some moments where we missed. When you play only four matches, it is very important to capitalize on those moments.”
