Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that in this resource-rich state, ‘only one family is looting everything, while the common people have nothing.’
Vadra also alleged that the BJP-led government is working by intimidating people. Addressing an election rally in Nazira in support of opposition leader and party candidate Debabrata Saikia, Priyanka Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi and accused him of working for America.
Only one family is looting in Assam: Priyanka Gandhi
Priyanka Gandhi claimed, ‘In Assam, one family is looting everything and when they are not looting, mines, lands and every property is handed over to big industrialists.’
He raised the issue of many old scams like Saradha, Smart City and NC Hills, alleging large-scale corruption in Assam. The Congress General Secretary claimed, ‘BJP had said that it has given a double engine government. Actually this is a government of double slavery. Prime Minister Modi is enslaved by America and Himanta Biswa Sarma is enslaved by Modi.
Wages of tea garden workers have not increased: Priyanka
Priyanka Gandhi claimed that this government has failed to fulfill the promise of increasing the daily wages of tea garden workers. He said that the people of the gardens are struggling. The Wayanad MP said, ‘People of various tribal communities have been demanding for years to be given Scheduled Tribe status. BJP had promised to give them Scheduled Tribe status, but they failed to do so.
She also alleged that women of Assam are forcibly forced to attend rallies of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister by threatening to remove their names from various government schemes, especially the flagship poverty alleviation scheme ‘Arunodaya’. Vadra said, ‘Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Himanta are ruling the country and the state by creating fear and on the strength of threats. Our fight is against this fear and to protect the culture and civilization of Assam.
Assam is in the clutches of mafia: Priyanka
Addressing his second election rally in Tingkhong in support of his party candidate Bipul Gogoi, the Congress general secretary said Assam has land, mines, history, nature, forests and every kind of other resources. Addressing the people present there, he said, ‘This land has given you everything, but still you people have nothing. Only one family is prosperous in Assam.
The Congress leader alleged that the state is in the clutches of ‘mafias and gangs’ and the government is working by threatening the people. He also said that popular musician Zubin Garg was the voice of Assam and he sang songs for brotherhood, unity and love. Garg died while swimming in Singapore in September last year.
Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘Assam government did not provide justice to her family. We want a government that will provide justice to Zubin Garg within 100 days. Voting for 126 seats of Assam Assembly will be held on April 9 and the results will be declared on May 4.
