Telangana Administration (DCA) on Saturday (January 10, 2026) has issued an urgent advisory regarding ‘Almont-Kid’ syrup to be given to children. The department has ordered to stop the use of this syrup with immediate effect because a highly poisonous substance named Ethylene Glycol (EG) has been found in it.
This action has been taken after a lab report received from Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Kolkata. The report has confirmed that the syrup of batch number AL-24002 manufactured by Bihar company Tridus Remedies is adulterated and deadly. This medicine is usually prescribed by doctors for the treatment of allergies, hay fever and asthma in children.
What was revealed by the lab report?
Investigation found that the amount of ethylene glycol in the syrup was much more than the standard limit. According to experts, it is an industrial solvent, which is used as anti-freeze and coolant. If it enters the body, it can cause complete kidney failure, damage the nervous system and can prove fatal for children.
Government’s strict stance and instructions
Telangana DCA Director General Shahnawaz Kasim has issued strict instructions in this matter. All drug inspectors of the state have been instructed to immediately seize the stock of this batch from medical stores, distributors and hospitals. At the same time, an appeal has been made to the parents that if they have the medicine of this batch (AL-24002), then they should not use it at all and immediately inform the concerned authorities.
Questions raised on drug regulatory system
Strict legal action has been initiated against the company responsible for manufacturing and distributing adulterated medicines. Such adulteration in children’s medicines has once again raised questions on the drug regulatory system of the country. The administration has made it clear that any kind of compromise with public health will not be tolerated. For the convenience of the public, the administration has also issued a toll-free number so that any suspicious drug can be reported.
