India’s Ministry of External Affairs also advised Indian citizens present in Iran to take appropriate precautions and avoid traveling to areas where protests or sit-ins have taken place. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, ‘In view of the recent developments, Indian citizens are advised to avoid non-essential travel to Iran until further notice.’

The Ministry of External Affairs said, ‘Indian citizens and PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin) present in Iran should take appropriate precautions, avoid visiting areas of protests or rallies and should closely monitor the website and social media of the Indian Embassy in Tehran for news.’

The Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian citizens living in Iran on residence visa that if they have not already registered with the Embassy, ​​then they should complete this work now.

Protest against the deteriorating situation in Iran

Protests against the deteriorating economic situation began in Tehran about nine days ago. So far, protests have taken place in about 25 out of 31 provinces in which more than 10 people have been killed. The protests began due to a sharp decline in the value of the Iranian currency, the rial, against the US dollar.

Trump had warned Iran

Last week, US President Donald Trump warned Iran against cracking down on protesters. Trump said on Sunday night that if more protesters were killed, Iran would suffer huge losses.
