India’s indigenous fighter jet LCA Tejas overshot the runway at the airbase after suspected brake failure earlier this month, causing heavy damage to the aircraft. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has clarified that there has been no incident of any kind of crash of LCA Tejas aircraft. HAL says that the incident being referred to was not during flight but was a minor technical incident on the ground.
Order for investigation of Tejas fleet
According to sources, the Indian Air Force has currently banned the flying of all Tejas fighter jets. The latest incident is of 7 February 2026, when the Air Force’s light combat aircraft Tejas met with an accident during landing after a training flight. The pilot of the plane came out safely in this accident. After this incident, the Air Force has ordered an investigation of the entire Tejas fleet so that technical faults can be detected.
Tejas fighter jet will fly only after investigation
No Tejas will fly until the investigation is completed. On 17 October 2025, the Defense Minister inaugurated the third production line of LCA Mk 1A at HAL’s Nashik campus. The annual production capacity of LCA Mk 1A has reached 24 aircraft. For LCA Tejas, American company General Electric (GE) is supplying engines to India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This agreement between American company General Electric and HAL is regarding the engine of this indigenous fighter jet of India.
The crash happened during the Dubai Air Show
Earlier, Tejas fighter planes had crashed in Jaisalmer in March 2024 and during the Dubai Air Show in November 2025. This Indian fighter plane crashed in an unfortunate accident at the Dubai Air Show 2025. After this accident, HAL had issued an official clarification letter, in which it was clarified that this incident was a single incident which took place under completely extraordinary circumstances. As soon as the plane fell, it caught fire and a cloud of black smoke was seen over the airport. According to the Air Force, pilot Wing Commander Namansh Syal, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, died in this accident.
Tejas fighter jet engine fails in Jaisalmer
In the year 2024, a Tejas fighter jet crashed two kilometers away from Jaisalmer city of Rajasthan. Tejas had crashed in March 2024 during the ongoing Bharat Shakti exercise in Pokhran and fell on the hostel of Bhil community located in Jawahar Nagar near the city. This accident happened due to engine failure.
