A big news related to Bangladesh politics and student movements has come to light. Student leader Sharif Usman Hadi, who played an important role in the famous student revolt of 2024, died on Thursday (18 December 2025). According to information provided by Singapore’s Foreign Ministry, he died due to serious injuries sustained in the attack in which he was shot. After this news, an atmosphere of mourning and tension is being seen in Bangladesh.
The Singapore government said that Sharif Osman Hadi was brought to Singapore on 15 December 2025 in an emergency situation. He was admitted to the Neurosurgical ICU of Singapore General Hospital, where a team of specialist doctors attached to the National Institute of Neurosciences was treating him. Despite all medical efforts, his condition could not improve and he died on 18 December 2025.
Who was Sharif Osman Hadi
Sharif Usman Hadi was counted among the prominent faces of the anti-Sheikh Hasina organization Inquilab Manch. He was also the spokesperson of the organization and was campaigning as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 seat in the upcoming February elections. Inquilab Manch came into national limelight during the student revolt in July 2024, which challenged the power of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Osman bin Hadi was born in Jhalakathi district of Bangladesh. His family was religious and lived a simple life. His father was a madrasa teacher, from whom Hadi received his early lessons in discipline, study and moral values. He received his primary education from Nasrabad Kamil Madrasa.
Inquilab Manch and political controversy
There has been continuous controversy in Bangladesh politics regarding Inquilab Manch. Many times it was linked to fundamentalist ideology. The interim government formed after the student movement dissolved this forum and it was barred from participating in the elections. Despite this, the leaders associated with the organization remained continuously active in political activities.
The attack took place in broad daylight in Dhaka
This attack took place in Dhaka on 12 December 2025. At that time Usman Hadi was going by auto through Calvert Road of Paltan area. During that time, unknown assailants fired at him, which directly hit his head. After being seriously injured, he was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then admitted to a private hospital for better treatment. When his condition remained critical despite treatment in local hospitals, on the advice of doctors he was airlifted to Singapore. For many days he kept fighting between life and death.
